Keytrol Installation

    Vernon Manufacturing

       Automatic Water Salesman

VERNON MANUFACTURING RECOMMENDS THAT A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN PERFORM THIS WORK.  PLEASE FOLLOW ALL FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL CODES FOR ANY ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING INSTALLATION.

USE A DEDICATED CIRCUIT AND SURGE PROTECTION.

For safety, wiring between components should be mounted underground in plastic conduit.

Since each installation is different, mounting hardware is not furnished and the following are general instructions only.  You and your installer will determine what is best for your application.  An awning, or similar cover over the unit, will help keep out moisture and keep customers dry.

Reveal the key box terminal strip.  Using the special key, unscrew the key bolts and remove the white locking bezel.  The tagged wire pigtails are for reference during installation and can be discarded.  Crimp the forked wire ends on and tighten them to the connector strip.  All of the terminals have tagged pigtails.

Mount the pulser box close to the flow sensor.  This distance should be no greater than the length of shielded cable that is furnished.  This cable can be shortened as necessary but DO NOT CUT AND SPLICE THIS WIRE BACK TOGETHER.  Regular wires from the pulser box to the Keytrol box should be 16ga.

Mount the paddle wheel flow sensor ahead of the valve.  It MUST be straight pipe running a minimum of 10 times the ID ahead of the fitting and 5 times after.  This is CRITICAL for accurate readings and is shown here.

2” pipe:  Minimum of 20” ahead -- 10” after.  Uses a “T” fitting with nylon insert.

3” pipe:  Minimum of 30” ahead -- 15” after.  Uses a saddle fitting with nylon insert.

4” pipe:  Minimum of 40” ahead -- 20” after.  Uses a saddle fitting with nylon insert.

THE NYLON FLOW SENSOR ADAPTOR MUST NOT BE REMOVED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY.

Install the valve in your water line either horizontal or vertical.  It is marked for direction of flow.  Protect it from freezing.  A gate valve (not furnished) mounted ahead of the water valve aids in cleaning and repair.

PLEASE NOTE:  Valve port #4 must be open to air—DO NOT PLUG THIS HOLE.

Automatic Drain:  If so equipped, tie both solenoids in parallel and bring only one wire per color to the connector strip as explained above.  Be sure the green ground wire is tied under a bolt on the valve.

GALLON REGISTRY:  Be sure the person in charge of billing knows the following values.

2” valve:  Each gallon registers on the appropriate user counter wheel.

3” valve:  Every 10 gallons register on the counter wheel.

4” valve:  Every 100 gallons register unless otherwise specified.

These values can be changed if needed.  Please call for help.

LOCK OUT:  For non-payment of account.

Individual customer lock out is provided by means of a 10-position switch mounted at the bottom of each 10-key segment. Access these switches by removing the white locking bezel as explained above.  The DIP-switches can be actuated with a small object like a paper clip or retracted ball point pen.  DO NOT USE A PENCIL.  UP is ON (normal).  DOWN is OFF (locked out).
